Teacher Funding Programs and Assistance.
Success is the merger of preparation and opportunity.
Student Resource USA (SRUSA) is a free resource for teachers and staff at the school and district level who are struggling with debt from student loans. Many staff members in Low-Income schools are in need of funding assistance in order to complete a Bachelor degree to become certified teachers or an advanced degree in a specialized area such as Special Education, Education Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction in order to become more “Highly Qualified”. Our goal is to find at least one teacher within each Title One School that can benefit from having a large portion of their loans forgiven and at least one teacher who can pursue Higher Education absolutely free by taking advantage of many of the programs discussed in our presentation.
Emphasis on Title I Schools and High Needs Areas Student loan debt can be a source of tremendous stress. It also can be a long term barrier to realizing education goals. SRUSA supports U.S. Department of Education and state goals by working with Title 1 and Low income schools. We emphasize federal and state “High Needs Areas”, enabling teachers to be more effective in the classroom and providing an opportunity for them to realize their professional goals.
Understanding of the Relationship between Loan Forgiveness and Tuition Support Each year millions of dollars in available scholarships for teachers go unused due to a lack of information. We offer a 20 minute information session for Title I and Low-Income schools to raise the teacher, staff and administrator awareness of available federal programs. Attendees will learn how to navigate through program options to develop a strategy that can: 1) provide relief from payments on student debt, 2) enable the student to use the relatively new Federal TEACH Grant to earn a Bachelor or Master degree, or earn NBC certification, 3) Allocate available funds for teachers to pursue higher education through scholarships for teachers, 4) reduce or eliminate loan balances, 5) Assist teachers in removing current student loan defaults as quickly as possible. Many teachers have heard of these programs, but are unaware how to correctly fill out the forms to ensure they will qualify. Without a comprehensive understanding of the program applicants inadvertently preempt themselves for taking full advantage of Federal loan forgiveness.
Comprehensive Career Planning Specifically, SRUSA provides teachers in Title I and Low Income schools with information about: 1) qualifying for Title I Student Loan Forgiveness ($5K to $17,500K) 2) Qualifying for Public Servant Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), a very powerful financial tool that can reduce loan payments and eliminate debt, 3) strategies for using the TEACH Grant ($4,000/year for BA or MA) and other scholarships along with PSLF to advance their education. Integrating these into a comprehensive plan can reduce monthly loan payments and eventually have loan balances forgiven entirely. SRUSA maintains a database of available scholarships at a number of universities offering a variety of Bachelor, Master and PhD programs for educators.Benefits the Teacher, the School and the District These programs can be life changing for teachers struggling to pay on federal debt. Those who benefit will have a huge weight removed. Some will resume their education. Moreover, the school and the district will benefit from a boost in teacher morale. The teachers will appreciate that school leadership cared about an issue that for many of them is of critical importance.
The presentation and the support provided to teachers are free. The presentation will not offer products or services for sale.
