PAVING & GRADING

New Paving is the application of hot asphalt applied to rock base material. Thickness of the asphalt depends on how much weight and traffic the surface will be subject to.

Base material or rock base is used to attain a high rate of compaction. The use of base material provides a strong foundation for the new asphalt being placed.

Grading of the base material is required. Grading is to level the base material to achieve specified elevations before paving. Grading is necessary to smooth and compact the base surface in order to be ready to receive asphalt.

REMOVE & REPLACE

As asphalt pavement ages through its lifecycle, its appearance diminishes over time. Without regular maintenance fine hairline cracks spread and deepen within the asphalt. Water may enter through cracks and holes may form, undermining the base. In this case, the most effective form of repair is to remove and replace the deteriorated area.

This process includes removing and hauling off the substandard asphalt. Then repairing the aggregate base and compacting to support the new asphalt. Finally pave with hot asphalt roll and compact to a smooth finish.

ASPHALT RESURFACING

If your pavement looks like it’s covered in alligator skin, but the base is still in good shape, a resurfacing (also known as an overlay) could be just what you need. There are many different steps and options for asphalt resurfacing.

Geotextile Resurfacing
– An option that may be included with asphalt resurfacing is a fabric called Petromat. Petromat is a non-woven, petroleum-based geotextile fabric used as a barrier between the existing pavement and the newly installed asphalt surface. This fabric acts as a waterproof skin as well as providing structural support and strength.

Leveling – In low areas, hot asphalt is installed at various depths to adjust grades while increasing parking lot strength.

Transition Milling – In areas requiring the resurface to tie into other existing surfaces (example: concrete ramp) asphalt will be milled and replaced to allow proper depth and transition.

MAINTENANCE

Protect your investment by getting your asphalt regularly maintained. Applying a seal coat to your asphalt will protect it from environmental influences. Asphalt is extremely durable and keeping it protected will ensure it will last years and years.

It is recommended to sealcoat your driveway within 12 months of new asphalt being laid. Then every 24 to 36 months after that.

REPAIR

Do you have potholes in your asphalt? Have you noticed small areas with alligator looking cracks? A cost effective way of fixing these issue is patching the necessary areas. Cut around and remove the damaged asphalt areas. Pave with new asphalt and compact to make a smooth surface that blends with the original asphalt.
